Dear friends devoted to education
I invite you BIRARADA Association TÖZ Publishing House and Middle East Technical University Alumni Association We invite you to the Critical Pedagogy Congress to be organized by the Middle East Technical University Alumni Association on November 29-30 and December 1 at Vişnelik Facilities, Ankara.
Today, the capitalist crisis has taken over many aspects of life. The crisis undoubtedly affects education. The knowledge produced in education systems is not used for humanity, but for the interests of power and capital. For example, how and for whose benefit the possibilities such as the internet, digital technology, robotics, coding and artificial intelligence within the framework of "Education 4.0" are used is one of the main questions of education.
On the other hand, critical pedagogy, founded by Paulo Freire from the 1960s onwards, problematizes these possibilities and focuses on "experiences of emergence" from this destruction in order to reveal different commons, commonalities, and INTERMINGENCIES. Critical Pedagogy subjectivizes individuals by posing new questions about social problems such as poverty, unemployment, exclusion and marginalization through dialogical teaching in classrooms and production spaces. It seeks to transform the inherently political institution of education into a consciousness-raising and empowering practice towards emancipation. However, centralized education systems prevent students from producing their subjectivity and weaken the autonomy of the teacher. In addition, the concept of public education is sacrificed to a marketist approach.
The crisis of humanity can be overcome through criticism. The word "krisis", translated from ancient Greek into Latin, means to think quickly, to make an objective decision and to act swiftly in the factual context and real conditions when a disease reaches a turning point. For this very reason, crisis shatters the holistic view of the human being. It is possible to eliminate this fragmentation through critical pedagogy. But how, with what tools and in what kind of environment? We invite everyone who researches, thinks and produces with a critical and alternative education perspective to organize collective workshops, participate in workshops or propose panels to the I. Critical Pedagogy Congress, where such question(s) will be addressed.
By reviewing the workshops and panels pages, you can determine in which area you will present a paper or you can choose to attend our congress as a listener. In any case, we kindly ask you to fill in the registration form indicating which sessions you will attend.
We hope to be with you at our congress...
